Zurich Financial Services Group – Data Center Strategy for North America

In 2007 Zurich Financial Services Group engaged Enterprise Networks to improve the efficiency and profitability of its North American data center structure consisting of 10 separate data centers across the United States. Enterprise Networks generated an end-to-end strategy that focused on the consolidation of the existing data centers as well as the implementation of new, highly efficient technologies (e.g., for virtualization and climate control).

After a comprehensive analysis different approaches were evaluated and strategic, tactical and operational measures to improve efficiency were derived. Especially the consolidation of 10 data centers to three so-called Mega Data Centers was designed and its underlying business case was calculated.
